Haute Mess Approved Films
Hey Babes!
I am horrible at picking “favorites”. I don’t have a favorite color, when I was little, I would feel bad for my other toys if they didn’t get played with enough and even when I decide on a favorite thing, I always second guess my answer. I’d like to take the time now, to thank my Libra moon for the indecisiveness that flows through my veins. Thanks home-girl, I couldn’t do it without you.
So, instead of spending hours trying to narrow down a list of my favorite movies, I’m just going to list some of the most influential films that have shaped me into the mess I am today.
A Cinderella Story
Arguably one of the best movies made in the early 2000’s. Chad Michael Murray, Hilary Duff Regina King, and Jennifer Coolidge make up the iconic cast, Murray and Duff slow dance to Edwin McCain and the story line would never work with today’s social media. It is a precious gem from a much simpler time. This movie is special to me, because it is one my mom and I watch together whenever it is on TV.
My Favorite Line: “Waiting for you, is like waiting for rain in this drought. Useless and disappointing.”
All I Wanna Do
Thank you, SOAPnet for introducing me to not only One Tree Hill, but also to the most underrated film of all time, All I Wanna Do. This movie has an all-star 90’s cast, featuring Kirsten Dunst, Gabby Hoffman, Rachel Leigh Cook, Heather Matarazzo and Merritt Wever. The film takes place at an all-girl’s school in the 1960’s and it centers around five friends who have bigger dreams than a white picket fence and 2.3 kids.
My Favorite Line: “No more little white gloves.”
Bring It On
One of the most iconic movies ever made. Point blank period. I mean, the fashion, the music, and the writing is fast paced and witty. Also, as a former cheerleader, it is the most accurate pop culture representation of competitive high school cheerleading. The only caveat is that they don’t have a coach, which is bizarre to me. Dear Hollywood, cheerleading squads have coaches, it is a sport not a school club. Thank You!
My Favorite Line: “Courtney, this is not a democracy, it’s a cheer-ocracy.”
Honorable Mention Line: “Better I choke you, Lafred.”
Legally Blonde
This movie inspired the shit out of my life. I was a sorority girl, I majored in fashion merchandising and I also loved Tiffany & co. When I was younger, I begged my mom to take me to Limited Too, so I could get a stuffed Bruiser Woods in a pink purse, so I could be Elle Woods. I have never met anyone who didn’t at least like this movie. It is an incredible story about growth, girl power and believing in yourself. Plus, the writing is legendary.
My Favorite Line: “Last week I saw Cameron Diaz at Fred Segal, and talked her out of buying this truly heinous angora sweater. Whoever said orange was the new pink, was seriously disturbed.”
The Parent Trap
Do you have any idea how many times I have watched this movie? The limit does not exist for me when it comes to enjoying this film. I was shook to the core when I found out that Lindsay Lohan did not have an identical twin. Most of the dialogue went over my head when I was younger, and now I must say that maybe… Meredith Blake wasn’t so horrible. If some brats pushed my fucking bed out onto the middle of the lake, I would ship those brats off to Switzerland too.
My Favorite Line: “Sisters? Hallie, we’re like twins.”
What movies have shaped you into the person you are today? I’d love to know!
xoxo,
Kelly
