A Total Chai Hard
Hey Babes!
As most of you know, I am addicted to Starbucks and more specifically I am obsessed with their iced chai, but due to living in this bizarre alternate universe I have very limited access to Starbucks. Could I go into a Starbucks located in Giant or Target? Yes! Is that the smartest decision? No. Is Starbucks actually an essential retailer? No, you assholes.
So, I decided to purchase Tazo’s classic chai latte concentrate and attempt to make my own beverage. The ingredients are super simple and are as follows:
chai teabags or concentrate
milk or dairy substitute
ice cubes
cinnamon powder
The first step is to coat your glass with cinnamon powder if you enjoy extra cinnamon, if not then skip this step! But, I believe that it makes a world of difference.
Next, I tried to mimic how the baristas create my drink so I poured in the chai concentrate. I kind of eyeballed this step and filled it up about halfway. It is totally up to your taste.
After the chai, I added in my milk. I personally use dairy milk, but you can substitute this ingredient to align with your dietary needs and preferences.
Then, I stirred the mixture and added in extra cinnamon powder on top of the drink.
Finally, I added in one large ice cube, let it cool the drink down and then I removed the ice because I didn’t want the tea to be too watery.
Is this version as good as my Starbucks order?
Truthfully, it is not bad at all! Sometimes, I receive a drink that is too milky or has an overpowering clove aftertaste, but my “homemade” drink is pretty good! Plus, it is so inexpensive in comparison to spending almost five dollars on a Venti cup. It does taste a little more watered down, but it is better than some other teas that I have had from other coffee places. And, desperate times call for desperate measures!
Please, let me know if you try this recipe at home! How are you dealing with your self-quarantine?
xoxo,
Kelly
