My Go To Hair Do

Hey Babes!

I can’t even pretend to be remotely capable of doing my own hair and that’s not an exaggeration. From grade school through college, I rocked a messy bun, braid or ponytail every single day. My hair could not be tamed... at least not by me. Like, if you saw me wear my hair down before 2018, I had professional help or had a friend of mine help me do my hair. That’s not a joke. I’m 100% serious.

When I chopped off my mane in 2018, I had to become more skilled at doing my own hair because it was too short to toss into a bun. I also relied heavily on headbands and then the pandemic happened and we all started wearing masks…

Wearing a mask, glasses and a headband is just way too fucking much, so I adapted! I am now obsessed with the low bun. The low bun is similar to the colonial boy ponytail, but it’s a little more classic and refined. The low bun gives the illusion that I have my shit together and here’s how to do it.

First, you’ll brush out your hair while it’s wet and part it with a comb. (Sorry, Gen Zers, homegirl here can’t pull of a middle part.) Also, don’t come at me for wet brushing my hair, I don’t have the type of hair that can be brushed once it is dry. I look like Mia fucking Thermopolis before the makeover.

Next, I add some Ouai hair oil to keep my baby hairs, fly aways and tiny annoying curls in place.

Finally, tightly gather your hair at the base of your neck and tie an oversized scrunchie around the low bun.

That’s it. Simple and sophisticated.

And if I can do it, so can you.
