The Content I Have Been Consuming

Hey Babes!

I know that during the quarantine, we are all looking for things to do that will keep us busy and entertained. So, today I wanted to compile a list of shows and movies I've watched, books that I have read, and podcasts I've listened to that have made the days go by faster.

Television Shows

The Great

I love historical series and when I heard about The Great on Hulu, I had to watch. It stars Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult and depicts the occasionally accurate story of the empress of Russia named Catherine The Great. The show is a satirical portrayal, and not for the faint of heart or the easily offended. The first season made me laugh and cringe so hard and I can't wait for season 2, HUZZAH!

Hollywood

Everything Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan touch, turns to gold. Hollywood on Netflix tells the story of a group of misfits determined to achieve their individual dreams of becoming stars in Hollywood following World War II. The mini series is filled with "taboo" relationships, gender and race inequality issues, and personal setbacks and achievements. This time period piece, does not disappoint. I laughed, I cried and I wanted to leap through my screen and verbally assault a character or two.

Movies

Miracle

This might be a little known fact about me, but I am a sucker for movies about sports teams. I don't know why, but I love films that focus on underdogs who triumph in the end and I also always look forward to a training montage. I saw the film focused on the U.S. men's Olympic ice hockey team from 1980, in theaters and I rewatched it the other day for the first time in years. I think I had chills throughout most of the movie, and if you need a pick me up, I recommend watching this film. I dare you to not feel something when Mike Eruzione declares which team he plays for!

John Tucker Must Die

Truthfully, I am so glad that I grew up in the early 2000's, because that is when the best movies were made. John Tucker Must Die is a hidden and under appreciated gem from that iconic era. I watched this, the other night because it is free on On Demand, and my mom and I laughed so much. Also, the shit that happens and is said in the movie would never fly today, but it is still fucking amazing. Hasta La Vista Mother F...

Books

The Best Laid Plans by Cameron Lund

High School romance story? Count me in, please! The Best Laid Plans is a coming of age story about high school senior Keely, who is the last standing virgin in her friend group. While she wants that experience, she isn't interested in sharing that with anyone she has know since Kindergarten. Luckily, she meets a super hot college guy, but her asshole friends convince her that he won't want to be with her, if he knows that she is a virgin. So, she hatches a plan to lose her virginity to her best guy friend, and that's where shit starts to get complicated. Anyway, I loved this book and I found it to be really honest, authentic and fucking funny.

Four Days of You And Me by Miranda Kenneally

Years ago, I proclaimed that I would read Kenneally's grocery lists and that statement still remains true. I have been craving a new book by her and I was finally blessed with Four Days of You And Me, which tells the story of two high school students, Lulu and Alex over the course of four years. Each year on May 7th, the students of Coffee County High School take a class field trip with their grade and each year Lulu and Alex experience a new chapter of their sometimes platonic, sometimes romantic, usually complicated relationship. While, I loved this book and devoured it in one sitting, I did find myself frustrated with what the characters weren't saying. Like do you ever want to shake someone and just tell them to open their fucking mouths? But, I suppose that is what makes the story more realistic!

Podcasts

Harry Potter At Home: Readings- Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone

IMG_0773.gif

Twice a week, familiar voices from the wizarding world, read chapters from J.K Rowling's first book in the Harry Potter series. I have never read any of the Harry Potter books before, and I have been enjoying listening to it on Spotify. I usually prefer to read books instead of listening to them, but since I already know what the world looks like thanks to the movies, it is easy for me to follow along. The only down side, is that each recording has a different voice narrating, so there really isn't a consistent tone or flow, if that makes sense. I have preferred some voices over others, but overall I have been enjoying it immensely.

The Bitch Bible by Jackie Schimmel

IMG_0772.gif

If you need a good belly laugh and a flow of serotonin do yourself a favor and listen to the Bitch Bible podcast. Jackie Schimmel is hands down my favorite podcaster and she is funny as fuck. I look forward to her work normally, but I have literally been depending on her "content" to keep me sane and entertained during the quarantine. If you love pop culture and are morally flexible, then the Bitch Bible is the podcast for you!

Those are the things I have been filling up my time with! Have you babes, watched any good shows or read any good books lately?

xoxo,

Kelly
