A Quarantined Easter

Hey Babes!

Despite the religious significance of the Easter holiday, my family has always celebrated the day in a low key way. But, there are things that will be vastly different this year. For instance, my aunt and my cousin drive up to our house from New Jersey and they spend every major holiday with us. This year, there’ll be no cookies from their bakery, no trips to the mall, and no arguing over which movie to watch on On Demand.

But, I know I’m not the only one who will be celebrating Easter in a new way this year, so today I wanted to share what I am doing to make the most out of this situation!

Send An Invitation

This year, because I have a surplus of free time, I sent my parents an invitation to Easter dinner with a place and time. Obviously, we are having dinner at our house, but it was just something fun for me to do. I also informed them that a dress code will be enforced or they will be asked to leave.

Tune Into Mass

Watch mass on TV or tune into a live stream to feel connected to God on this holiday. My mom has been tuning into a live stream of mass regularly during quarantine because it provides her with a sense of calm in this crazy time.

Wear Your Sunday Best

Dress up! The last time I put on a stitch of makeup was March 12th, so for Easter I am going to get ready, put on a cute outfit and maybe even shave my legs. It’ll be the same thing I do for Thanksgiving, just with less guests and better food!

Make It Nice

Since we have been going out for dinner for the past eight years, this year we are ordering takeout from the restaurant we usually go to and we’ll be eating at home. To make it feel more like a holiday, I will be breaking into my mother’s curio cabinet so we can eat off of the good china that is there solely for show. My mom almost always goes into cardiac arrest when I unlock the curio cabinet, but aesthetics are important and I refuse to eat off of paper plates and drink out of plastic cups on a holiday!

Connect With Your Peeps

Schedule a FaceTime or Zoom meeting with your family and friends! Even though we can’t physically be together, we can still catch up and interact with our loved ones on Easter. You could have a happy hour or do an egg dying party. The choice is yours!

Treat Yo’Self

Eat lots of chocolate or candy! This is a holiday after all, so treat yourself to something sweet. I’ll be making a strawberry shortcake of sort, hopefully it’ll turn out okay. Fingers crossed!

That is how I will be celebrating Easter this year! I do think that it is important to remember that everyone’s plans have been rearranged and that we’re all just trying to make the most out of this hand we’ve been dealt. I hope you all have a great weekend!

xoxo,

Kelly
