My Post Work Ritual - Coronavirus Edition

Hey Babes!

July is almost over and while we're no longer in lockdown, we're still wearing masks and practicing social distancing. A few aspects of life have returned to normal, or at-least 2020's version of normal. People have returned to work, restaurants are open for dining and nail salons are taking appointments for much needed treatments. With that being said, there is still a virus running rampant in this country and today I wanted to share the precautions I take to prevent the spread of this virus after a day of work.

I work in a moderate to high traffic clothing store in the mall. I interact with a large number of strangers everyday. I handle their money, their clothes and process their returns all while attempting to maintain a reasonable distance between myself and the clients. Truthfully, adhering to the six feet apart mandate is nearly impossible. There's less than six feet between my side of the register and the client and there is less than six feet between my co worker and I if we are working at the cash wrap together. So, how do I stay healthy while working in the retail service industry during a global and national pandemic? Here are the five things I do.

I am diligent about taking my daily multi vitamin and my daily dose of super b complex with vitamin c.

I wear a mask for my entire shift and we disinfect the cash wrap and the fitting room in between every client to ensure their safety and our own.

When processing returns, I wear gloves and frequently sanitize and wash my hands throughout my shift.

After my shift, I take my shoes off outside before I go into the house.

Once inside, I remove all of my jewelry, wash my hands and immediately change into a new comfy outfit. My work or outside clothes go directly into the hamper and I try not to repeat my outerwear pieces more than twice before I wash them.

Even with these precautions, it's still possible that I could be exposed to COVID-19. I worry daily, that I could be bringing home something to my parents who are both considered high risk. I also, don't want to get sick and I don't want to get any strangers or co workers sick either. Cleanliness and personal hygiene are vital right now and it is imperative that we don't become lazy about washing our hands or sanitizing. Also, don't be a fucking selfish asshole and wear a mask above your nose when you're in public spaces.

xoxo,

Kelly
